What is a Hong Kong style waffle you may ask?  Well, it is a honeycomb-shaped egg waffle that is very popular in Hong Kong.  The waffles are made by pouring a unique batter into a special waffle pan.  Then, the batter is cooked on both sides by flipping the pan until it is a golden brown.  The cakes are lightly sweetened and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside.  They have a chewy texture and have an eggy taste.  It is scrumptious!

Eggloo is an ice cream shop that serves ice cream in a Hong Kong waffle!  They have a really small shop found in NYC Chinatown.

There are two different types of ice cream you can get: Cone and Rose.  The Cone is a scoop of ice cream on a waffle.  The Rose is a scoop of ice cream that is shaped to look like a rose on a waffle.  They will top this cone with some Pop-rock candies.  It adds a sparkle to the cone!  The Cone is basically the same ice cream without the flower design but you can load it up with lots of toppings.

There are so many different toppings to choose from.  They have oreos, pocky, fruity pebbles, diced almonds, mochi, and so much more!  The Cone has unlimited toppings or at least as many as you can fit onto the ice cream.  To make up for the lack of toppings on the Rose cone, its waffle can have filling inside such as Fruity Pebbles cereal, diced almonds, Oreo cookies, or M&M’s.DSC00010

Last licks

The ice cream here is really creamy, and the toppings are fresh.  It’s not too sweet and there are loads of toppings to choose from.  If you get the “Rose” ice cream then sadly, you cannot have any toppings.  Toppings on this cone will cover up the lovely flower that the guy worked so hard to create.  I wish they would find more toppings that would accompany the flower without covering it up.  I’ll admit the pop rocks they sprinkle on was a lot of fun but the candy started popping before I had a chance to taste it.  This cone takes a little more time to create but they work fast.  The store does not have a lot of seating and it is a little difficult to find since it’s located on the second floor.
